Stamford is the finest stone town in England and the only place on our Tuesday run where the showpiece street is also a genuine gradient, St Mary's Hill drops properly from the church down to the river bridge. The centre's Georgian townhouses and the cottage rows of St Martin's bring listed doorways and the occasional flight of front steps. North of the centre, Northfields and the newer streets are level and ordinary.
That fixed Tuesday is the whole reason this costs £10 a week rather than £30. We are not making a special trip to Stamford, we are already there, so you get the van at route cost instead of one-off cost. Pick whichever Tuesday suits you when you book.
Barnack, Ketton and Ryhall are all PE9 and all reached on the same Tuesday as Stamford at the same price.
In the centre, count your steps and describe your door, Stamford stone was cut generously but eighteenth-century halls vary a lot. On-street parking around the showpiece streets takes planning, we will agree the spot with you beforehand. The Victorian terraces off Scotgate and the modern estates deliver at the plain price. Barnack and Ketton are stone villages with the same character as the town in miniature.
Stairs are £99 per floor, and that covers carrying it up now and back down at the end. A lift only removes the charge if it is about 1.2 metres deep, because the piano travels standing on its end.
