Southampton is one of our busiest piano cities and the housing explains why. Shirley, Portswood and Highfield are street after street of solid Victorian and Edwardian terraces with a chimney-breast alcove made for an upright, and east of the Itchen the thirties semis of Bitterne and Sholing carry on the theme. The city is kind to a piano crew: mostly level, with wide suburban roads and the awkward hills few and gentle.
That fixed Friday is the whole reason this costs £10 a week rather than £30. We are not making a special trip to Southampton, we are already there, so you get the van at route cost instead of one-off cost. Pick whichever Friday suits you when you book.
The whole Southampton water is one Friday run: Hedge End, Botley and West End in SO30, Warsash, Hamble and Locks Heath in SO31, Hythe in SO45 and Chandler's Ford in SO53, all at the same price as the city.
Terrace deliveries in Shirley and Portswood are our bread and butter here, pavement-fronted with workable halls, so the plain delivery price is the usual outcome. Around the university and Highfield tell us if it is a shared house, we will aim the piano at the right room first time. Ocean Village and the newer waterside quarters are lift territory, 1.2 metres deep and the stair charge disappears. Everything out towards Hedge End and Chandler's Ford is modern drives and wide doors.
Stairs are £99 per floor, and that covers carrying it up now and back down at the end. A lift only removes the charge if it is about 1.2 metres deep, because the piano travels standing on its end.
