Dorking sits in the gap between Box Hill and Leith Hill, and the town tips gently in most directions. West Street's antique-shop frontages are the old core, narrow pavements and older doorways, while the Victorian terraces off South Street and the Edwardian villas up Tower Hill carry the slopes. Westcott and the RH5 villages scatter south into proper hill country.
That fixed Wednesday is the whole reason this costs £10 a week rather than £30. We are not making a special trip to Dorking, we are already there, so you get the van at route cost instead of one-off cost. Pick whichever Wednesday suits you when you book.
Westcott, Pixham, Mickleham, Capel and Ockley are RH4 and RH5, and they share Dorking's Wednesday run at the same price.
In town the questions are modest, a step at the door, a tight hall in the older streets, permit parking near the centre. The slope roads, Tower Hill and the lanes off Ranmore Road, add front-path steps worth counting. Out in RH5, some village houses sit up banks or down tracks, so a sentence about the approach saves a surprise. We have yet to meet a Surrey hill that beat a two-man crew and a trolley.
Stairs are £99 per floor, and that covers carrying it up now and back down at the end. A lift only removes the charge if it is about 1.2 metres deep, because the piano travels standing on its end.
