Cirencester is Cotswold stone from the Market Place outwards, and stone towns keep piano crews honest. Coxwell Street and Cecily Hill are beautiful and narrow, with doorways that predate the upright piano by a couple of centuries. But most Cirencester homes are not seventeenth-century: Chesterton, Kingshill, Stratton and the new Steadings development are ordinary widths and level fronts, and they take a piano easily.
That fixed Saturday is the whole reason this costs £10 a week rather than £30. We are not making a special trip to Cirencester, we are already there, so you get the van at route cost instead of one-off cost. Pick whichever Saturday suits you when you book.
GL7 is enormous, so Fairford, Lechlade, South Cerney, Kemble and Bibury are all on the same Saturday run as Cirencester at exactly the same price.
In the old centre we ask one extra question: is there a step up into the hall and which way does the staircase turn. Old stone houses are individual, so the notes box matters more here than in most towns. On the newer streets south and west it is the plain price almost every time. Several of the villages are estate cottages with the same character as the old town, so tell us which kind of house you are in and we will arrive prepared rather than surprised.
Stairs are £99 per floor, and that covers carrying it up now and back down at the end. A lift only removes the charge if it is about 1.2 metres deep, because the piano travels standing on its end.
