Bishop's Stortford climbs away from the Stort on both sides, old centre in the dip, housing on the slopes. The Victorian terraces of Newtown and the streets off Dunmow Road are classic piano houses, pavement-fronted with a proper front room. The big recent growth, Bishop's Park and St Michael's Mead, is modern, level and wide-doored, and the station quarter has brought blocks of flats where the lift rule earns its keep.
That fixed Tuesday is the whole reason this costs £10 a week rather than £30. We are not making a special trip to Bishop's Stortford, we are already there, so you get the van at route cost instead of one-off cost. Pick whichever Tuesday suits you when you book.
Thorley, Manuden and Sheering are CM22 and CM23, and they ride the same Tuesday run at the same price as Bishop's Stortford.
Terrace deliveries need the usual two facts, any step at the door and where a van can stand, Newtown parking is tight on weekday mornings. The newer west-side estates are plain-price territory almost without exception. In the old centre off North Street and South Street expect period quirks and tell us about them. Flats by the station: measure the lift, 1.2 metres deep and the stair charge vanishes.
Stairs are £99 per floor, and that covers carrying it up now and back down at the end. A lift only removes the charge if it is about 1.2 metres deep, because the piano travels standing on its end.
