Berkhamsted runs along the floor of the Bulbourne valley, canal, railway and High Street all squeezed in parallel, with the housing climbing both slopes. That geography decides the deliveries: the Victorian terraces off the High Street and up the hill towards the common often have steps from the pavement, while the valley floor and the newer streets towards Northchurch stay level.
That fixed Wednesday is the whole reason this costs £10 a week rather than £30. We are not making a special trip to Berkhamsted, we are already there, so you get the van at route cost instead of one-off cost. Pick whichever Wednesday suits you when you book.
Northchurch, Potten End and Little Gaddesden are all HP4, on the same Wednesday run at the same price as Berkhamsted.
If your house is on the north slope, up Gravel Path or Cross Oak Road way, count your front steps before booking, two or three steps is normal here and we handle it constantly, it just helps to know. Canalside cottages can be charming and compact, a quick note about the hall does the trick. The Edwardian villas and thirties semis that fill much of the town are wide-doored and simple.
Stairs are £99 per floor, and that covers carrying it up now and back down at the end. A lift only removes the charge if it is about 1.2 metres deep, because the piano travels standing on its end.
